Breast milk carries living bacteria and vitamins that build your baby’s immune system. Byomi is a small pod that absorbs the oxygen introduced while pumping which spoils the milk, so it’s as close to the moment it is expressed as possible.
Oxygen changes breast milk.
When your baby latches, their mouth forms a natural seal against your skin, and milk passes from you to them without ever meeting the air. When pumping, oxygen is introduced and dissolves into the milk and settles in the space above it. Our research found that from that moment it begins to degrade the living parts and vitamin content of the milk.
Those living parts are unique to you. The bacteria and vitamins in your milk are shaped by your body and tuned to what your baby needs.
Byomi keeps your milk as close to the moment it was expressed as possible. A small pod draws the oxygen out of the milk and the air above it. In our study, milk stored this way held on to its living bacteria and its vitamin C for far longer, so more of your microbiome reaches your baby’s gut, in turn building their gut microbiome and helping to lay the foundations of their immunity.

The things parents ask us.
Squeezing the air out of a bag doesn’t protect the milk’s living microbiome or vitamin content.
Our research found that the oxygen introduced while pumping dissolves into the milk itself, where it begins to affect the living microbiome and the vitamins inside. Emptying the headroom of a bag leaves that dissolved oxygen in place. Byomi draws it out of both the milk and the air above it, and works with the market-leading bottles you already own, with the adapter in three sizes.
A single pod protects one bottle of milk for up to seven days in the fridge.
You can lift the pod out and pop it back up to three times for the same bottle: to top up, to move the milk to another bottle, or to feed and re-store. Keep it out for no more than five minutes each time. After the third time, start a fresh pod.
It depends how often you pump and store.
Most people use around a box of 30 a month. If you pump for every feed you will get through them faster; if you pump now and then, a box lasts longer.

We are a team of scientists, and BYOMI grew out of seven years of breast milk research at UCL. The pod works by drawing oxygen from the sealed bottle: it sits above your milk in the adapter and adds nothing to it. Every part that goes near your milk is made from food-safe materials, and we test the system before it reaches you.
